Day 1: San Jose-Tortuga Lodge - Morning pick-up by a Service Guide and drive to the Atlantic lowlands near Limon. About midday board the boat with a Tortuguero Guide and depart for a 2-4 hour trip to Tortuguero. Arrive at Tortuga Lodge mid-to-late afternoon for dinner and overnight. (LD) (TG) (LG)

Day 2: Tortuga Lodge - After breakfast, explore the canals of Tortuguero National Park by boat with a Tortuguero Guide to observe wildlife and flora. Return for lunch at Tortuga Lodge. The rest of the day free for optional excursions at additional cost. Overnight Tortuga Lodge (BLD)(LG)

Day 3: Tortuga Lodge - Morning boat excursion into Tortuguero National Park with a Tortuguero guide. Return to Tortuga Lodge for lunch, afternoon free for optional activities at extra cost. Overnight Tortuga Lodge. (BLD)

Day 4: Tortuga Lodge-Monteverde Lodge - After breakfast, transfer across the river to the Tortuguero airstrip for the direct flight to San Jose (35 minute flight). Fly over the Atlantic lowlands and Braulio Carrillo National Park. Upon arrival, pick-up by service guide at the Pavas airport for a 4–1/2 hour drive to Monteverde. The first 2–1/2 hours are on the Pan-American Highway and the last 2 hours are on a winding gravel road (no guide provided for this portion). Arrive at Monteverde hotel in time for lunch on your own. (Checkout time in Costa Rica is 2 p.m., so you may have to wait to check into your room.) Dinner and overnight at Monteverde Lodge or alternative. (BD) (SG)

Day 5: Monteverde Lodge - Following day, join morning excursion (of up to 10 people) to Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve accompanied by Monteverde Guide from the Reserve, or by a Costa Rica Expeditions Service Guide. 

Return to your hotel at mid-day. Afternoon on your own, optional activities are available at additional cost. Overnight Monteverde Lodge or alternative. (BLD)(LG)

Day 6: Monteverde Lodge - Morning visit to the Monteverde Butterfly Garden where butterflies and other insects are raised and displayed in screened enclosures with beautiful gardens. After lunch, return to the Monteverde Reserve with a Monteverde Guide to hike in the cloud forest, search for wildlife and observe the flora. Overnight Monteverde Lodge or alternative. (BLD)

Day 7: Monteverde Lodge-San Jose - After lunch drive approximately 4 _ hours to San Jose where you will be dropped off at your hotel. (BL) (SG)
