The many natural and man-made wonders of Peru
have inspired us to offer classic tours to such places as Lima, Cusco/Machu
Picchu, the Amazon, Lake Titicaca, the Nasca Lines and to the recently
excavated tomb of the Lord of Sipan!
The ancient Inca City of Cusco and the nearby
ruins of Machu Picchu are the highlights of any visit to Peru. The
surrounding fortresses and Colonial churches are also a must.
Arequipa lies at the foot of the inactive Volcano
Misti, surrounded by a beautiful, fertile countryside. Called the “White City”
because of the white stone used in most buildings, it has an original and
elegant architecture. It is Peru's second largest city and home of the fabulous
Santa Catalina Convent, a jewel of 16th century Spanish architecture.
Trains from Cusco or Arequipa puts you at Lake
Titicaca, the world's highest (12,500 ft) navigable lake and the legendary
birthplace of the Incas. Puno gives you easy access to the famous Uros Indians
living on floating reed islands. From Puno, continue to La Paz by day-crossing
of the lake, or transfer by plane to Arequipa or Lima.
From Iquitos, in the heart of the Amazon jungle,
you can take excursions to the Amazon, visit Yagua Indian villages, explore the
jungle and view wildlife, butterflies, birds and the exotic flora.
South of Lima is Paracas, home of a Pre-Inca
culture famous for textiles and ceramics and the Ballestas Islands wildlife
reserve. Ica, a little further south, is the center of the wine growing district
and has an exceptional museum. Also available from here are overflights of the
Nazca plains, where enormous figures of animals, birds and people were etched in
the desert sand some 2,500 years ago, and remain as testimony of a remarkable
and enigmatic culture.
Take the time to make these travels part of your
heart and soul.
A valid passport is required for travel to Peru.
