Peru Extended Tours
Charming Peru (9 days / 8 nights) DAY 1: Reception in Lima - Upon arrival in Lima, reception and transfer to your hotel. Overnight in Sonesta Posada del Inca San Isidro. DAY 2: Ica - Nazca Lines (B) - You will be driven 310 Km. (194 miles) south along the Pan-American highway from Lima to Ica, through arid desert and lush coastal oasis. Upon arrival to Ica, assistance at the hotel and transfer to Nazca. In the afternoon, tour to Kantalloc Aqueducts, Paredones (and old Administrative Inca Centre) and flight over the mysterious Nazca Lines. Return to Ica. Overnight in Ica - Hotel Las Dunas. DAY 3: Ica - Paracas - Ballestas Islands - Return to Lima (B) - A 60 Km. (37 miles) drive north to Paracas for an excursion by boat to the Ballestas Islands to view thousands of birds, sea lions and fur seals in their natural surroundings. The famous candlestick design, a Nazca civilization figure etched on the desert face, can also be seen from the boat. In the afternoon, relaxing return to Lima and transfer to your hotel. Overnight in Lima. Sonesta Posada del Inca San Isidro DAY 4: Lima - Cusco City Tour and Nearby Ruins (B) - Transfer to the airport in Lima and assistance to board your flight to Cusco. Upon arrival, meeting and transfer to your hotel. In the afternoon, tour of this beautiful city and surrounding ruins. You will visit the Koricancha and will continue on to the underground cave and temple of Kenko and then to Tambomachay, known as the "Baths of the Inca" due to its thermal springs. Drive back down to Cusco and your hotel. Overnight in Cusco. Hotel San Agustín Internacional DAY 5: Sacred Valley of the Incas (B, L) - Visit to the colorful Indian market in Pisac (only Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays) to see a blend of color, tradition and people. After lunch, continue to Ollantaytambo, the oldest continuously occupied settlement in the Americas, where you will visit its famous fortress. Overnight in Sacred Valley. Hotel Pakaritampu DAY 6: Machu Picchu (B. L) - Departure by train for a tour of Machu Picchu, the "Lost City of the Incas" one of the most renowned examples of Inca architecture. You will arrive to Aguas Calientes where you will board the bus which will drive you to the Machu Picchu Citadel. Surrounded by lush cloud forest, the citadel perches on a mist-shrouded mountaintop. After a guided visit of the ruins, a buffet lunch will be served in a local restaurant. Overnight in Aguas Calientes. Hatuchay Tower Machu Picchu Hotel. DAY 7: Second Day at Machu Picchu (B) - Morning at leisure to visit the ruins on your own. (Transportation and entrance fees are included, no guide included this day). In the afternoon, return by train to Cusco and transfer to your hotel. Overnight in Cusco. Hotel San Agustín Internacional. DAY 8: Cusco - Flight to Lima - Lima City Tour (B) - Transfer to the Cusco's airport for your flight to Lima. Upon arrival, reception at the Lima airport and transfer to your hotel. In the afternoon, the Lima City Tour offers the best of colonial and modem Lima. Historical Center - Included are Lima's most imposing colonial churches and mansions such as the Government Palace, the Plaza Mayor, the City Hall and the Cathedral, including 17th century San Francisco Monastery. The tour ends with a visit to the modern suburbs of San Isidro, where appreciate the pre-Inca pyramid of Huaca Huallamarca, continuing to Miraflores, which overlooks the Pacific Ocean. Unforgettable Cusco (4 days / 3 nights) DAY 1: Cusco City Tour and Nearby Ruins - Upon arrival to Cusco, meeting and transfer to your hotel. In the afternoon, tour of this beautiful city and surrounding ruins. You will visit in the Historical Center the Koricancha, or Temple of the Sun, where you will appreciate the incredible masonry of the Incas. The tour will take you to the Plaza de Armas, scene of so many historical events in Cusco during the Inca and Spanish reigns. Under a backdrop of the majestic Andean mountains and the remarkable Spanish Colonial architecture of the Cathedral and the Church of La Compañía, built on the foundations of Inca palaces, Cusco seems to have been frozen in time. The Cathedral, built in the form of a Latin cross, offers beautifully carved woodwork, especially in the side chapels and the cedar choir stalls; a baroque pulpit; the high alter covered in silver; and the interesting painting of the Last Supper by Marcos Zapata in which a guinea pig is depicted. Enjoy the drive to Archaeological Park of Sacsayhuaman, the Inca fortress of Sacsayhuaman on the hill above the city of Cusco. The views from here down the Andean valley and overlooking the city are spectacular. You will continue on to the underground cave and temple of Kenko and then to Tambomachay, known as the "Baths of the Inca" due to its thermal springs. Drive back down to Cusco and your hotel. Overnight in Cusco. DAY 2: Cusco - Sacred Valley of the Incas - Cusco (B, L) - Visit to the colorful Indian market in Pisac (only Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays) to see a blend of color, tradition and people. At a distance of 30 Km. (19 miles) from Cusco, and an altitude of 2,970 meters (9,700 ft.), Pisac is located right at the entrance to the Sacred Valley. After lunch, continue to Ollantaytambo, the oldest continuously occupied settlement in the Americas. Ollantaytambo's narrow streets, complete with canals unchanged since Inca times, recall its ancient heritage. Drive back down to Cusco and your hotel. Overnight in Cusco. DAY 3: Cisco Machu Picchu - Cusco (B, L) - Departure by train for a tour of Machu Picchu, the "Lost City of the Incas" one of the most renowned examples of Inca architecture. You will arrive to Aguas Calientes where you will board the bus which will drive you to the ruins. Surrounded by lush cloud forest, the citadel perches on a mist-shrouded mountaintop. Explorama Lodge and Canopy Walkway Special (4 Days/3 Nights) DAY 01 - IQUITOS – EXPLORAMA LODGE - Reception at the airport or hotel, brief city orientation and transfer to the Explorama dock. Fifty mile journey down the Amazon River to Yanamono Stream where Explorama Lodge is located. Afternoon hike along the "Lake trail" through lowland rainforest which is seasonally flooded. During the high water season, this excursion is done by open boat! Night walk or open boat ride to enjoy the sounds of the rainforest and stars of the Southern sky. Lunch, Dinner. Overnight Explorama Lodge DAY 02 – EXPLORAMA LODGE - Early morning birding excursion. Morning walk along the "Bushmaster Trail", where scientific studies by the Missouri Botanical Gardens have found the world's highest biodiversity of trees per square hectare. Continue on to visit a small village of Yagua Indians where your guide will explain their culture and how it has been affected by the passing of time. There will be an opportunity to trade for or purchase some of their local crafts and for a demonstration of the use of the blowgun which some of the Yagua elders still use for hunting. Afternoon boating excursion in search of sloth, found in Cecropia trees at the water’s edge, and the two species of freshwater river dolphin, pink and grey, found in Amazonian waters. Overnight Explorama Lodge DAY 03 – EXPLORAMA LODGE / CANOPY WALKWAY / EXPLORAMA LODGE - Early morning departure from the Lodge by boat to the mouth of the Napo River where in 1542, the intrepid explorer Francisco de Orellano, became the first European to discover the Amazon River. Continue on the Napo River to ExplorNapo Lodge for breakfast. Hike to the spectacular Canopy Walkway spanning over 500 meters (one-third of a mile), connected by tree platforms, and reaching a height of over 35 meters (115 feet) but accessible without any type of climbing skill or equipment. After lunch, visit the "ReNuPeRu" Ethnobotanical Garden where over 240 medicinal plants are cultivated by a local shaman who will explain the nature of Amazonian natural healing and the uses of some of the plants. Return to Explorama Lodge in time to relax in the hammock house or at the Tahuampa Bar before dinner. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner. Overnight Explorama Lodge DAY 04 – EXPLORAMA LODGE – IQUITOS - Morning walk along a local Amazon River trail stopping at a "ribereños" house, corner store and sugar cane rum factory. Afternoon return to Iquitos and on to the airport or hotel in Iquitos. Breakfast, Lunch (if departure flight permits). Due to the ever-changing nature of the rainforest, day-by-day activities may vary due to local conditions.
