Day of the Dead - A Cultural Tradition October 28 (12 days) Mexico City - Xochimilco - Mixquic - Cholula - Oaxaca Montealban Join historian Emilio Roca for a privileged look at the arts and culture of Mexico. This cultural adventure bring us to a time when Mexican families remember their dead, and the continuity of life. The original celebration can be traced to ritually presided by the "Lady of the Dead" (Mictecacihuatl), and dedicated to children and the dead. In the Aztec calendar, this ritual fell roughly at the end of the Gregorian month of July and the beginning of August, but in the post conquest era it was moved by Spanish priests so that it coincided with the Christian holiday of All Hallows Eve (in Spanish: "Día de Todos Santos.") We will visit the market of flowers in Xochimico, the cemetery in Mixquic, the celebrations in Cholula and Puebla, ending in the beautiful festivities in Oaxaca. COST: $1,620.00 per person, double occupancy. Includes accommodation, delicious meals, all entrance fees to parks and ruins, expert guide, luxury transportation, all airport transfers. |
