On Christmas Eve Day, following a boat ride through the Majestic Sumidero Canyon, the small group will arrive in the colonial mountain town of San Cristobal de Las Casas. Following dinner at the hotel, guests will have the opportunity to visit the Indian village of San Juan Chamula to experience a unique celebration. The statue of the Virgin Mary is moved to the front door of the church. Meanwhile, the statue of the Christ child has been taken to its caretaker's house to the church steps to deliver the baby Jesus. In the church square, rockets, hot air balloons, and firecracker covered mock bulls are carried on the shoulders of men who dance in the plaza as the firecrackers explode. It is festival like few have seen.
